14-Fight UFC Veteran Trevin Giles Signals Retirement Following Release

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight Trevin Giles is ready to pack up shop.

At age 32, Houston-based policeman Giles (16-7) put out a message on social media on Thursday to announce his retirement from fighting. A one-time light heavyweight—he made his promotional debut at that weight category—Giles found himself more comfortable at 185 pounds and eventually welterweight.

On the heels of three consecutive losses and an odd situation of sustaining an injury during his recent weight cut, Giles was released—upon request—from the organization, according to news that broke earlier this week. He has decided to move on from combat sports.

“To all my family and friends, thank you so much for all the support throughout the years,” Giles wrote. “Just recently I requested to be released from the UFC and they have granted my request. Fighting in the UFC has been a hell of an experience. I’ve been at this for a long time now and I’ve known for a while that I would stop fighting soon. My life is pulling me in a different direction and I am grateful and excited to see what’s next. Thanks again for all the love and support.”

Streaking Houstonian Once Saved Local UFC Show

The fighter known as “The Problem” never earned or suffered single defeats as a professional, always going on a streak of some sort. After outhustling Ryan Spann on the regionals, Giles introduced himself to the organization with two blistering knockouts of James Bochnovic and Antonio Braga Neto. He came back to earth with back-to-back guillotine choke losses at the hands of Zak Cummings and Gerald Meerschaert.

Giles made a name for himself in Houston during UFC 247 in 2020, where his opponent Antonio Arroyo fainted on weigh-in day and was replaced by current persona non grata James Krause. With the former coach stepping up on short notice, nearly reaching the middleweight limit, he and Giles not only threw down the following day but did so in a back-and-forth battle that earned them “Fight of the Night” honors. Of note, the Houstonian celebrates wins over noteworthy names like Roman Dolidze, Brendan Allen and the aforementioned Spann.
