Alex Pereira Delivers Emotional Speech to Team After UFC 320 Win

Alex Pereira wasted no time in thanking his team after his UFC 320 win.

Pereira was a heavy underdog going into his title rematch against Magomed Ankalaev in the main event at UFC 320 last Saturday in Las Vegas. “Poatan” took just over a minute to drop Ankalaev and finish him with heavy ground-and-pound. While Pereira said that he had a long speech planned, he chose to pay tribute to Jon Jones’ brother, Arthur Jones, who tragically passed away at the age of 39.

However, Pereira didn’t forget to thank his teammates backstage. Pereira apologized for any mistakes that he might have made. As for himself, Pereira felt he did everything to near perfection and felt 100% going into the fight.

Camps Are ‘Very Special’ for ‘Pereira

“The camps, when we come, it’s been very special for me,” Pereira said. “Everyone helping me, I really appreciate it. I apologize for some mistakes I must have made… If I did something wrong, I want to apologize. For me it was all right. Nothing to get in the way. I think I did the right thing this time… Maybe not 100% disciplined. I’m a human being, I’m a failure. But I’ve always been trying to fix it. Even at the UFC PI I tried to do everything right. Even with food, which is something I never did right, Glover? I tried to do something better, but this time it was 100%. Let’s pray. Thank God for this family.”

Pereira won and defended the light heavyweight title thrice within a year before losing it to Ankalaev this past March. The Brazilian is now eyeing a superfight against Jones at heavyweight.
