Alexey Kunchenko now meets Gilbert Burns at UFC Uruguay

Gilbert Burns’ welterweight debut is set, as he replaces injured Laureano Staropoli against Alexey Kunchenko at UFC Uruguay on Aug. 10, MMA Fighting learned following a report by Combate.

The Fight Night card will take place at the Antel Arena in Montevideo and feature flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko versus Liz Carmouche in the main event.

Victorious in four of his last five UFC lightweight bouts, Burns (15-3) is coming off back-to-back wins over Mike Davis and Olivier Aubin-Mercier. “Durinho” also scored submission wins over Gleison Tibau and Marcelo Azevedo in grappling bouts this year.

Kunchenko (20-0) is a former M-1 Challenge welterweight champion who defeated former UFC title challengers Thiago Alves and Yushin Okami in his first Octagon appearances in 2018. “Wolverine” finished 13 of his 20 opponents by knockout or TKO.
