UFC’s first card in Uruguay will mark the return of unbeaten Russian welterweight talent Alexey Kunchenko against Argentine’s Laureano Staropoli. Both fighters verbally agreed to the bout but contracts have yet to be signed, sources told MMA Fighting following a report by Red Fury MMA.
UFC Uruguay is slated for Aug. 10 at Montevideo’s Antel Arena and features flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko rematching Liz Carmouche in the main event.
Kunchenko (20-0), a former M-1 Challenge welterweight champion, scored decision wins over former UFC title challengers Thiago Alves and Yushin Okami in his Octagon appearances.
Staropoli (9-1), who also defeated “Pitbull” Alves by decision in May, is 2-0 since joining the UFC in 2018, defeating Hector Aldana at the promotion’s first-ever event in Argentina.
