The UFC women’s featherweight championship will be on the line June 6 as two-division queen Amanda Nunes faces Felicia Spencer, multiple sources told MMA Fighting following a report by ESPN.
The UFC has yet to officially announce the June 6 event and its exact location.
“The Lioness” originally was scheduled to defend her belt against Spencer on May 9 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but the event was moved to the United States due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nunes eventually decided not to fight, explaining she wanted to “let this coronavirus pass a little bit so I can at least have a full camp.”
Spencer (8-1), a former Invicta FC champion, earned a shot at the 145-pound belt after stopping Zarah Fairn in the first round at UFC Norfolk in February. The Canadian prospect is 2-1 under the UFC banner with a quick submission victory over Megan Anderson followed by a decision loss to Cris Cyborg.
Nunes (19-4) is riding a 10-fight winning streak, which includes wins over six former or future UFC champions: Germaine de Randamie, Holly Holm, Cris Cyborg, Valentina Shevchenko, Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate.
As previously reported by MMA Fighting, the June 6 event also features a bantamweight clash between former titleholder Cody Garbrandt and Raphael Assuncao.
