Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Pena rescheduled for UFC 269

Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena are back on.

The UFC announced Monday that Nunes (21-4) will defend her bantamweight title against Pena (10-4) at UFC 269 on Dec. 11, with a location still to be determined. This matchup was originally scheduled to take place at UFC 265 on Aug. 7, but Nunes withdrew after testing positive for COVID-19.

Nunes currently holds UFC championships at both 135 and 145 pounds. She is No. 1 at bantamweight in MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings and in MMA Fighting’s Women’s Pound-for-Pound Rankings. This will be Nunes’ first defense of the bantamweight title since UFC 245 in December 2019, where she defeated Germaine de Randamie via unanimous decision.

“The Lioness” is unbeaten in 12 straight outings, including back-to-back defenses of the featherweight title in her past two fights.

Pena, No. 5 in MMA Fighting’s Global Rankings, earned her shot at Nunes with a third-round submission win over Sara McMann at UFC 257 in January. The Ultimate Fighter 18 champion also holds notable wins over Nicco Montano, Cat Zingano, and Jessica Eye.

It is not yet known if Nunes vs. Pena will serve as the Dec. 11 main event.
