Arman Tsarukyan Details Difference Between Wrestling, UFC Matchups

Arman Tsarukyan doesn’t take his wrestling matches as seriously as a UFC booking.

When Tsarukyan is not competing in the UFC, he has been exceptionally busy in wrestling competitions. However, “Ahalkalakets” revealed that he treats his wrestling side gigs as training sessions. In addition to the fact that Tsarukyan doesn’t have to cut weight, he is also not too worried about the outcome. Meanwhile, Tsarukyan’s career is at stake in a UFC fight, which also comes with a grueling training camp and media commitments.

“It’s like a training session because I don’t cut weight,” Tsarukyan said on “The Ariel Helwani Show.” “If I lose, OK, I lose, I don’t care, it’s not my sport. If I lose in freestyle wrestling, it’s OK. But in the UFC I’m locked in for two months, and I think about the fight all day, because that’s the sport I live for and it’s my goal to be a UFC champion… It’s easier to wrestle for me, but MMA is hard.”

Tsarukyan (23-3) disappointed the UFC by pulling out of a scheduled lightweight title challenge against Islam Makhachev last year. Tsarukyan has since been deprived of another title shot as punishment. Meanwhile, Tsarukyan has defeated Mehdi Baydulaev, Lance Palmer and fought Sharabutdin Magomedov to a draw in wrestling. Tsarukyan also earned a submission win over Dan Hooker at UFC Qatar this past November.
