Having regained the welterweight title with a Grand Prix run that included wins over Rory MacDonald, Michael “Venom” Page, and Andrey Koreshkov, Lima set his sights on becoming a two-division champion. The middleweight belt was up for grabs with champion Rafael Lovato Jr. having to vacate it due to a brain condition, and former Bellator middleweight champion Mousasi was slotted opposite Lima to determine who would claim the title.
Mousasi got the better of Lima on fight night, with his mixture of size, striking, and grappling proving to be too much for Lima to overcome. The two fought to a competitive five-round decision, with Mousasi winning via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47). “The Dreamcatcher” added another Bellator belt to his trophy case that also includes a Strikeforce light heavyweight title and DREAM titles at both 185 and 205 pounds.
