Benoit St. Denis is already eyeing future opponents after his win at UFC Paris.
St. Denis co-headlined UFC Paris in front of a home crowd against Mauricio Ruffy on Saturday. The Frenchman weathered the early storm from Ruffy and submitted the Brazilian in the second round, sending the Accor Arena into a frenzy. St. Denis subsequently named Arman Tsarukyan, Dan Hooker, and Mateusz Gamrot as potential opponents for his next outing. St. Denis claims the UFC already tried to match Gamrot with both him and Tsarukyan, but it didn’t come to fruition. St. Denis suggested a matchup between him and Tsarukyan, since “Ahalkalakets” already fought Gamrot in 2022. Regardless of the opponent, St. Denis is focused on staying active.
St. Denis Wants to Stay Active
“Arman, Hooker, Gamrot. I mean, anybody inside the Top 10,” St. Denis said at the post-fight press conference. “I know they wanted to make Arman vs. Gamrot, they wanted to make me vs. Gamrot, it didn’t work. Maybe me vs. Arman. Because obviously Gamrot vs. Arman was already made. So I don’t know what will be the UFC plans. But I refuse nobody. I’m back at the version of myself which is – fight as much as possible, win as much as possible, no matter the opponent.”
After dropping his UFC debut in 2021, St. Denis quickly shot to stardom with five straight finishes, earning himself a matchup against Dustin Poirier. Poirier showed the levels in the game by derailing St. Denis’ hype train with a second-round stoppage. “God of War” further lost momentum with a stoppage loss against Renato “Moicano” Carneiro in his next outing. St. Denis was a sizeable underdog going into his much-needed upset win over Ruffy. Meanwhile, Tsarukyan has long been rallying for the next lightweight title shot. However, the Russian recently accepted that he might have to pass another litmus test before fighting for the title.
