Brad Tavares Withdraws from UFC Brasilia Matchup Against Antonio Carlos Jr.

Brad Tavares has suffered an injury and will not be able to compete against Antonio Carlos Jr. at UFC Brasilia on March 14.

Multiple outlets have confirmed Tavares’ exit following an initial report from Combate. According to the report, the Hawaiian middleweight suffered a ruptured ACL in his knee. While the UFC has not officially announced Tavares’ withdrawal, it seems likely that Carlos Jr. will remain on the card against a replacement opponent.

UFC Brasilia takes place at Nilson Nelson Gymnasium and includes a light heavyweight tilt between Johnny Walker and Nikita Krylov. The card is expected to stream on ESPN+.

Tavares is coming off a first-round knockout loss to Edmen Shahbazyan at UFC 244 on Nov. 2. Prior to that, he dropped a five-round verdict to current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at “The Ultimate Fighter 27” finale on July 6, 2018. Tavares debuted in the Octagon in 2010 and owns a 12-6 mark within the Las Vegas-based promotion.
