Dana White’s Contender Series alum Brok Weaver will make his promotional debut against Thomas Gifford at UFC Tampa.
Weaver announced the lightweight booking during Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday. UFC Fight Night 161 takes place on Oct. 12 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla., and is headlined by a strawweight duel pitting Joanna Jedrzejczyk against Michelle Waterson.
Weaver earned a UFC deal with a unanimous decision triumph against Devin Smyth at the Contender Series on Aug. 13. The 27-year-old has won his last six fights and owns a 13-4 career mark.
Gifford made his debut at UFC Fight Night 150 in April, when he dropped a three-round verdict to Roosevelt Roberts in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. “The Young Lion” is 14-8 with two no contests over the course of his pro career.
