Considered one of the best fights of 2025, the Noche UFC main event between Diego Lopes and Jean Silva has generated ample debate material among Brazil’s fighting media.
On his weekly YouTube show, “Papo de Luta,” UFC commentator Carlão Barreto made a point of praising Diego Lopes‘ performance.

“The first thing that caught my attention was Diego’s mentality,” Barreto said. “He got into all that trash talk Jean started, but inside the Octagon he managed to stick to his tactical plan and impose a 10-8 first-round score. Another thing that impressed me was Diego’s capacity to absorb the blows cleanly in the second round and keep moving forward. In my opinion, this affected Jean’s psyche, who, once again, didn’t listen to his corner reminding him that the fight was five rounds. Then he just decided to go for the knockout. That’s how he lost the fight. It seemed like Diego was waiting for this opportunity to land the decisive spinning elbow.
“All the credit goes to Diego,” the Carlson Gracie black belt added, noting that Lopes corrected the mistakes that led to his loss to Volkanovski. “If he had fought MMA doing what he did with Jean against Volkanovski, in my opinion he would have beaten the Australian.”
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Renato “Moicano” named Lopes vs. Silva as the best fight of 2025 and acknowledged that he considered Jean the favorite before the event.
“Besides his extremely high striking level, he was on a five-win streak and was very confident. Several knockouts in the UFC, defending takedowns well,” Carneiro said.
The American Top Team product also highlighted the work of Fighting Nerds head coach Pablo Sucupira, who tried to calm the Silva down during the break between rounds. However, that advice was not followed.
“Sucupira came to him and said: ‘Dude, you have five rounds, you’re not going to solve this now. Don’t spin, he caught you with a silly spin.’ How many spins did he throw? He threw more than three. “Well, OK, if the guy wins, everyone calls him ‘genius,’ but sometimes he loses… I think Jean might be shaken by that,” Moicano said.

Lopes released a video on his YouTube channel where he shows Jean coming to congratulate him.
“I am for real guy. All I told you before was not lie,” Silva says.
Lopes cuts off Silva’s speech and points out that the Fighting Nerds member talked a lot of trash.
“I know you will keep working hard and one day we will meet again,” Lopes adds.
