Flyweights Casey O’Neill and Roxanne Modafferi are expected to meet at UFC 271, multiple people with knowledge of the booking told MMA Fighting. The bout was first reported by MMA Ideas.
UFC 271 takes place Feb. 12 at a city and venue to be determined. The event’s headliner also has yet to be announced.
The matchup pits O’Neill, a surging up-and-comer, against hardened vet Modafferi. O’Neill picked up her third straight win this past month, stopping Antonina Shevchenko, the sister of flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko, in the second round of their UFC Vegas 38 meeting.
Modafferi, one of the most experienced octagon competitors in the women’s divisions, needs a win after suffering her second straight loss in a meeting against Thaila Santos at UFC 266. It was the first time she has lost back-to-back bouts after alternating wins and losses in her first eight UFC appearances, which came after her finalist run on The Ultimate Fighter 26.
