Chance Rencountre is looking to go 3-0 in 2019 when he takes on Lyman Good at UFC 244.
Although he didn’t have any specific opponents in mind, Rencountre and his coaches agreed that Good is an ideal matchup.
“I was just looking to fight again and this is the opponent they sent,” Rencountre said to Sherdog.com. “I just send opponents to my coaches and my coach told me this was a good matchup for me so we signed the dotted line.”
Rencountre’s wrestling has carried him to those two UFC triumphs, and he knows just how important that skill will be at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.
“Not just in this fight, but I think my wrestling is a huge factor in all my fights,” he explained. “I have been wrestling everyone these days, now everyone knows just how good it is and people got to prepare for my wrestling. It is one of the sharpest tools I have, and my wrestling is going to open my striking.”
Although his wrestling is his best tool, Rencountre wants to keep this fight standing and test his striking against Good. But, even if it goes to the ground, he is confident he will leave New York with the win.
“He is a guy who comes forward and pressures. We will see how my striking matches up but we will also see how good his wrestling is. He has been working on the wrestling, I’m sure of it,” he said. “But, I think I can wrestle with the best in the world. I want to keep it on the feet as long as possible, but I know I will get my hand raised.”
