How Charles Johnson landed historic Scottish twister against Eduardo Henrique at UFC 330
While Johnson is better known for his striking, he showed off his grappling chops when the opportunity presented itself.
The Scottish twister is a variation of the traditional twister that requires precise control of the opponent’s waist and torso. For Johnson, however, the submission was far from a last-second improvisation, revealing that Patrick “Patchy” Mix showed him how to do it.
“I hit that at least once or twice a week on people in practice, so it’s just about getting there,” Johnson said in a post-fight interview. “Patchy Mix actually showed me that move, so I’m gonna give him his flowers, man.”
Johnson (20-9) has alternated between wins and losses for his last seven bouts and has already fought four times this year. He notably holds a knockout win over the reigning champ, Joshua Van, who’s set to defend his title at the next numbered event.
