Charlie Ward vs. John Redmond confirmed for Bellator 187

UFC veteran Charlie Ward will make his Bellator debut Nov. 10 at Dublin’s 3 Arena at middleweight.

In an all-Irish matchup, Ward (3-3) will meet Cage Warriors and BAMMA veteran John Redmond (7-12), who has previously fought for Irish middleweight titles.

Bellator confirmed the fight with MMA Fighting on Wednesday morning.

Ward was signed by the UFC after clocking up a record of 3-1. In an article by the The Mac Life shortly after his signing, Ward claimed that his five-fight contract with the promotion was “all down to Conor McGregor.

Ward came up short in his two outings under the promotional banner. He debuted at UFC Belfast last November against previously undefeated Abdul Razak Alhassan, who ended the Irishman’s night inside the first minute of the first round.

In his second visit to the Octagon, Ward’s night ended in bizarre fashion when he met UFC debutant Galore Bofando. Ward landed awkwardly as he was trying to evade a throw from the celebrated striker. When he hit the canvas, he was rendered unconscious in the first round of the UFC Glasgow clash in July.

Redmond’s last MMA outing came at Cage Warriors Unplugged in November when he was submitted by Leeroy Barnes in the first round via guillotine. The loss snapped a two-fight winning streak for Redmond after he scored knockout wins over debuting professional Glenn Irvine and Modestas Bukauskas.
