Marlon Vera will attempt to return to the win column when he returns to action at UFC Mexico City.
The former bantamweight title challenger will lock horns with David Martinez on Feb. 28 at Area CDMX in Mexico City Mexico. Multiple outlets confirmed the 135-pound booking following an initial report from Eurosport NL. UFC Mexico City — also known as UFC Fight Night 268 — is headlined by a flyweight duel pitting Brandon Moreno against Asu Almabayev and airs on Paramount+.
Prolonged Slump
Vera will be looking for his first Octagon triumph since August 2023, when he outpointed Pedro Munhoz at UFC 292. That led to a 135-pound title shot for “Chito,” who dropped a unanimous decision to Sean O’Malley at UFC 299. Since then, Vera has lost consecutive decisions to Deiveson Figueiredo and Aiemann Zahabi. The 33-year-old Team Oyama product has earned victories against the likes of Dominick Cruz, Frankie Edgar, Rob Font and O’Malley over the course of his promotional tenure.
Martinez, meanwhile, rose to prominence at the most recent Noche UFC, where he upset Rob Font in a unanimous decision triumph this past September. That was the ninth straight win for the Mexico City native, who knocked out Saimon Oliveira in his Octagon debut in March 2025. “Black Spartan” has been victorious in 13 of 14 professional outings overall, with 10 triumphs coming via KO or TKO.
