CM Punk Hints That Next Octagon Appearance Will Be at UFC 225 in Chicago on June 9

It’s looking more and more likely that CM Punk’s sophomore Octagon appearance will take place at UFC 225.

On Monday, a Twitter user attempted to goad the former World Wrestling Entertainment star in to a response by asking “So when are we gonna see you cry again in the Octagon?” Punk responded by dropping a hint about his next fight.

“June [9], after I win and lock eyes with my beautiful wife, embrace my coaches and shout out my entire team,” he answered.

After a standout career as a professional wrestler, Punk made his debut with the Las Vegas-based promotion at UFC 203, where he was soundly defeated by Mickey Gall via first-round submission on Sept. 10, 2016. While the booking was largely criticized, the event did reasonably well, attracting an estimated 450,000 viewers to pay-per-view. While the card also featured a heavyweight title fight between Stipe Miocic and Alistair Overeem, a fair amount of that interest could be attributed to Punk.

Punk did not mention an opponent in his tweet, but he has been linked to a potential bout with Mike Jackson. Gall defeated Jackson at UFC Fight Night 82 to earn a shot at Punk. UFC 225 takes place in Chicago – Punk’s hometown – on June 9 and features a heavyweight showdown between Overeem and Curtis Blaydes.
