Coach Details Fight Fixing Allegation Conversaion with Isaac Dulgarian

Coach Mark Montoya had a conversation with Isaac Dulgarian about fight-fixing allegations before his bout against Yadier Del Valle at UFC Vegas 110.

Dulgarian was initially a -250 favorite going into his clash against the Ultimate Fighting Championship debutant last weekend. However, the odds suspiciously dropped to -160 for Dulgarian a couple of hours before the contest, meaning heavy money was pouring in on Del Valle. Some sportsbooks even stopped taking prop bets for a first-round finish. Lo and behold, Dulgarian was submitted by Del Valle in the first round via rear-naked choke.

Dulgarian (7-2) has since been released by the UFC, and the matter is under investigation by the FBI. Some books have even refunded customers who lost money on Dulgarian. Reports have since surfaced that the UFC had wind of the situation ahead of the fight through its independent betting integrity partner, IC360. UFC CEO Dana White claimed that officials even had a word with “The MidWest Choppa,” who assured that all was well.

Dulgarian has old ties to disgraced coach James Krause, who has been banned due to fixing allegations. Dulgarian joined Factory X in Englewood, Colorado, after all UFC fighters were asked to cut ties with Krause. Factory X coach Mark Montoya has denied any involvement. Montoya defended his gym while confirming that Dulgarian is no longer welcome. Montoya further revealed that word in about the allegations ahead of the fight. Montoya had no reason not to believe Dulgarian when the fighter reassured that everything was alright.

“From my perspective, that’s a massive distraction from what our job is,” Montoya told Ariel Helwani. “Our job is that we prepared weeks upon weeks to go win a fight. So, first and foremost, as a coach and as a person, I care about my fighter. So there’s a conversation that needs to be had, and we had the conversation about allegations. He reassured me he wasn’t involved, and I had no reason not to believe him. So we reassessed, like we would anytime… We had some news, let’s verify whether this is true or not, he reassured me it wasn’t, and then my job, like I said, is to continue to train my guys to win in life, train my guys to go win in that cage, and my full focus was on, ‘Awesome, let’s go win a fight and prove ourselves right and let’s get after it.’ That ultimately was the discussion.”
