The lineup for Combate Americas inaugural pay-per-view is beginning to take shape, as the promotion revealed two new bouts for its Dec. 7 event.
Former British Association of Mixed Martial Arts champion Daniel Barez will square off against UFC veteran Joby Sanchez at flyweight, while former Bellator MMA talent Gaston Reyno will lock horns with Angel Cruz in a 150-pound catchweight affair. Both bouts are expected to be part of the evening’s main draw.
Combate Americas “Tito vs. Alberto – What Side Are You On” takes place at Payne Arena in McAllen, Texas, and is headlined by a 210-pound catchweight clash pitting Tito Ortiz against Alberto Rodriguez. In the co-main event, Melissa Martinez will face Desiree Yanez for the strawweight title. The pay-per-view price is expected to be $39.99.
Barez, 30, enters the matchup on a four-fight winning streak. The Spaniard owns a 10-4 career mark and has finished eight of his triumphs by knockout, technical knockout or submission.Sanchez, who went 1-4 over two separate UFC stints, is coming off a unanimous decision triumph against Josey Alday at Combate Americas “Tucson” on Oct. 11.
Reyno improved to 8-2 as a professional with a first-round tapout of Carlos Ochoa in his Combate Americas debut on Sept. 28. A native of Puerto Rico, Cruz halted a three-bout skid with a 49-second submission of Ariel Juarez at a Combate Americas event in Dallas on Nov. 1.
