Conor McGregor has only fought once in the past 12 months but that was still more than enough for the Irish superstar to cement himself as one of the highest-paid athletes in the world.
Forbes Magazine released their list of the top 100 highest-paid athletes for 2020 with McGregor landing at No. 16 for the year.
According to Forbes, McGregor reportedly earned $48 million with his fight purses totaling $32 million and endorsements adding another $16 million to his bottom line. McGregor reportedly makes $5 million per year from an endorsement deal with Reebok, which he renewed back in 2018.
McGregor’s return to action back in January with a first round TKO against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone reportedly added more than $30 million to his bank account. McGregor’s disclosed payday for the fight was only $3 million but he makes the majority of his money from pay-per-view sales in coordination with the UFC and ESPN.
McGregor has consistently made the list for highest paid athletes over the past few years including a spot at No. 4 in 2018 after he reportedly earned $99 million thanks in large part to his boxing match against Floyd Mayweather.
Overall salaries for athletes dropped in 2020, largely due to the coronavirus pandemic that shut down sports around the globe back in March.
Tennis great Roger Federer topped the entire list for 2020 after he reportedly earned $106.3 million for the year.
McGregor was the only mixed martial artist on the list and he was second overall in all of combat sports with heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury ranking at No. 11 after he reportedly earned $57 million in the past year.
Other boxers on the list included Anthony Joshua (No. 19, $47 million), Deontay Wilder (No. 20, $46.5 million) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (No. 30, $37 million).
