Conor McGregor seems confident that he will return to action when the Octagon touches down at the White House next year.
Earlier this summer, President Donald Trump announced that he planned to hold a Ultimate Fighting Championship event at the White House as part of the celebration for the United State’s 250th birthday. While it was initially expected to take place on July 4, 2026 — recent reports have indicated it could take place in June instead.

“I’m very happy that it’s June,” McGregor told TMZ. “It was on in July, now it’s a month earlier. Even better! Bring it to April, why not? Let’s celebrate the birthday early. I celebrate my birthday months in advance. “That’s a definitely [I’m fighting at the White House]. For sure. That’s my event. That’s my event for sure.”
McGregor has not fought since July 2021, when he broke his leg in a loss to Dustin Poirier in a trilogy bout at UFC 264. The former two-division champion was scheduled to return against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June 2024, but the Irish star withdrew on the week of the event due to a broken toe.
McGregor Says He’s ‘Ecstatic’ and ‘Motivated’
In more recent months, a UFC comeback seemed unlikely for McGregor, but he announced his return to the drug testing pool when plans for a White House card were revealed. UFC CEO Dana White recently shared more details regarding the logistics of the event, including the potential location for weigh-ins and how many fans much be allowed to attend. White has also seemed more open to the possibility of McGregor competing on the card than one of the promotion’s other top stars, Jon Jones.
“I’m ecstatic. The Mac is back and what better event than to grace the White House lawn for a straightener. What I do best,” McGregor said. “I’m very, very excited. Very eager. Very motivated. Bring it on, baby.”
