Conor McGregor Refers To Several Dagestani UFC Fighters As ‘Dirty Smelly Rats’ In Deleted Tweet

For the second time in recent memory, Conor McGregor took shots at Dagestani rivals on Twitter before apparently thinking better of it and deleting the tweet in question.

The UFC makes its return to the Middle East on Sept. 7 with the promotion’s recent announcement that UFC 242 will be held in Abu Dhabi with an expected lightweight unification title bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and the interim champ Dustin Poirier. A number of Nurmagomedov’s fellow Dagestani fighters are also expected to compete on the card.

A Twitter account by the name of “MMA Team Dagestan” listed several Dagestani fighters they claimed to be projected to appear on the card, including Islam Makhachev, Zubaira Tukhugov and Mairbek Taisumov.

The tweet elicited a reply from former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ McGregor who went onto Twitter and blasted several fighters on that list over their past use of performance-enhancing drugs before swiftly deleting the message (h/t to Bloody Elbow for the screen capture).

“Team Meldonium,” McGregor wrote. “3 on this list caught on performance enhancers in the past already. Islam, zubaira and Mairbek. Dirty smelly rats all of them.”

McGregor has a well-publicized history with a number of these fighters as he clashed with them during the brawl that broke out at after his fight against Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 last October.
