Cris Cyborg Has No Regrets After Leaving UFC, Proud To Have Created a Division

Former UFC featherweight champion Cristiane Justino Venancio, better known as “Cris Cyborg,” says she has no regrets after parting ways with the promotion earlier this month citing ongoing issues with UFC President Dana White as a major reason she didn’t renew her contract.

“Cyborg” fought her last fight for the promotion at UFC 240 on July 27 against fellow former Invicta FC featherweight champion Felicia Spencer. The 34-year-old Justino dominated her opponent the entire fight, earning herself a unanimous decision victory.

Though that was the last fight on her contract, it was rumored “Cyborg” might renew her contract, or even sign a one-fight deal, for a rematch fight against dual-division champion Amanda Nunes who dethroned her for the 145-pound title. However, that never materialized, and Justino instead left the UFC under a cloud of accusations and counter-accusations. While she has yet to announce a new promotional home, “Cyborg” is rumored to be in talks with Bellator MMA, whose president, Scott Coker, was president of Strikeforce during her initial rise to prominence under that banner.

The popular Brazilian posted a video on her YouTube channel and said she doesn’t regret parting ways with the UFC and was satisfied that she was able to leave a legacy by building the featherweight division (via MMAFighting.com).

“Everything I did, I was always feeling in my heart. I don’t regret anything. . .” Cyborg said.

“[The UFC] is in the past. It’s in the past since my last fight. I put it in the past in my heart. I believe I made a lot in the UFC. I believe I’m one of the girls who fought in the UFC who has more wins than losses. I believe all places I’ve been had something special in it. With the UFC, I wanted to be fighting in the UFC. I went through all the hard time cutting weight to make my division and they made it. Amanda is the champion, there is a division. Every moment of my life I start a project and the UFC project was to have my division. I put an effort to get down to the division, I made it, and there is a division now.”

Cyborg hasn’t announced where she will be fighting next but said that her fans will find out soon.
