Gane challenged Aspinall for the heavyweight title in the main event at UFC 321 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi. While Aspinall was a heavy favorite, Gane looked excellent on his feet as long as the fight lasted, even cutting open the champion. However, things took a disappointing turn when Gane accidentally poked Aspinall in both eyes late in the first round. After taking nearly four out of the five allotted minutes, Aspinall’s vision was still compromised, leading to the fight being declared a no contest.
Gane is disappointed with the outcome of the fight, as expected, considering the hard work that went into the preparation. However, “Bon Gamin” is also disappointed with the outcome because the fight was playing out his way while it lasted.
An Unsatisfying Outcome
“I’m a bit disappointed with the outcome of this fight, of course,” Gane said. “For many reasons, because of all the work we’ve done, all the commitments. But also because the way the fight was going, because of the future… It is a really unsatisfying outcome. So yeah, now what’s next, I don’t know yet. I got my manager and I trust him, my team and the UFC.”
