If Brock Lesnar wants to fight again, UFC president Dana White is definitely open to the idea.
Of course that seems to be the case every time Lesnar reaches the end of a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment as the former heavyweight champion flirts with the idea of fighting again before inevitably returning to his old stomping grounds in professional wrestling.
That said, Lesnar just recently became a free agent after failing to come to terms on a new deal with WWE, which has immediately led to speculation that perhaps he might want to fight again. In 2018, Lesnar even got involved in an altercation with then champion Daniel Cormier after he won the heavyweight title, which seemingly set up a future fight between them.
Several months later, Lesnar opted not to fight but instead once again returned to WWE but the door remains open for a UFC comeback.
“I haven’t talked to Brock,” White said when asked about Lesnar on Tuesday night following the latest episode of the Contender Series. “I haven’t talked to Brock in probably a year. I don’t know [if he wants to fight again].
“He’s 43 years old and he’s got a lot of money. So I don’t know what his plans are, how his body feels, any of that. Like I said, I haven’t talked to him.”
If Lesnar wants to fight again, one particular opponent that might interest him is former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Lesnar and Jones previously exchanged messages through interviews and social media expressing interest in a fight against each other but it never came to fruition. White says if Lesnar wants to revisit that possible fight, he’s definitely open to the idea.
“If they both want to fight each other, I’m sure it’s a fight that the fans would want to see,” White said. “It would be a good introduction for Jones into the heavyweight division.
“Yeah, if they wanted to do it, I would do it.”
Jones just recently vacated his light heavyweight title while announcing a move up to the heavyweight division. He even took a shot at Lesnar on social media after news that he was a free agent was made public.
White likes the idea, especially given Lesnar’s drawing power and Jones’ intention to permanently call heavyweight his new home.
“If [Brock] calls me and he’s interested in fighting, I would obviously consider making that fight,” White said.
Prior to Jones dropping Lesnar’s name, he was angling for an immediate title shot against reigning heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.
Considering how Jones reigned over the light heavyweight division for the better part of the last decade while routinely being called “the greatest of all time” by White as well as many others, it would seem a title shot against Miocic would be possible.
That might be the case if not for Francis Ngannou perched at the head of the contender’s race following four straight knockout wins including a pair over former champions Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos.
“No, he can’t jump over Francis,” White said about Jones leap frogging his way into a heavyweight title fight. “Francis has earned his spot. He’s been grinding for two years now. He deserves the shot.”
