Dana White ‘Very Happy’ With Scoring of Volkov vs. Almeida

Dana White doesn’t see any controversy in Alexander Volkov’s split-decision win over Jailton Almeida

Volkov and Almeida met in a heavyweight tilt at UFC 321 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi. Almeida took Volkov down effortlessly and controlled him on the ground for most of the fight. However, “Malhadinho” barely landed any damage on Volkov despite establishing a control time of nearly 11 minutes. Meanwhile, Volkov took every opportunity to cause damage and did just enough to walk away with a split-decision win. While the decision had the MMA world divided, Dana White is “very happy” with the scoring. According to White, laying and praying is not enough to win a fight.

’You Can’t Win a Fight By Laying on Top of Somebody’

You can’t win a fight by just laying on top of somebody,” White said at the UFC 321 post-fight press conference. “That’s not how it works. So, I was actually very happy with the way the judges scored that fight.

While Almeida has finished seven of his eight UFC wins, the Brazilian has been criticized for inaction in the past in his win over Derrick Lewis. Almeida has now sandwich wins over Alexander Romanov and Serghei Spivac between losses against Curtis Blaydes and Volkov.  Meanwhile, Volkov is 5-1 in his last six, only losing to Ciryl Gane in his last outing.
