Demetrious Johnson slammed referee Marc Goddard and fans for their anti-grappling stance following Khamzat Chimaev’s title win at UFC 319.
Chimaev challenged Dricus Du Plessis for the middleweight title in the main event at UFC 319 on Saturday in Chicago. Chimaev ragdolled “Stillknocks” for five rounds to earn a unanimous decision win. Despite the domination, Chimaev’s performance was booed during the fight and also criticized after the fact. Defending Chimaev’s skillset, Johnson slammed the bloodthirsty fan base. The MMA GOAT contender urged fans to stop watching the UFC if they don’t want to watch wrestling.

“If you guys don’t wanna watch grappling and wrestling — don’t watch the UFC,” Johnson said on his YouTube channel. “You guys are complaining about something which is very easy problem to fix…Let’s say Khamzat is about to fight again. All you have to do is, you see this button right here. It’s called off button, [presses remote], you go off. It’s a very simple problem to fix guys. You guys are making it a bigger deal than it is.”

While Chimaev was constantly working for better positions on the ground, Goddard stood them up twice, calling for more action. Color commentator Joe Rogan instantly expressed his disagreement with Goddard’s decision. Similarly, Johnson also thought it was a faulty decision from Goddard to try to force the action amidt boos from the crowd.
“I think the ref shouldn’t have given DDP the chance to get back to his feet. Even though fans were like, ‘Oh my god.’ I think it was a big L from the ref. But the ref’s just trying to make it an exciting fight.”
