Derek Brunson Angles for UFC 230 Clash with Israel Adesanya at Madison Square Garden

UFC 230 already has a distinctly middleweight theme to it, and if Derek Brunson gets his way, both he and Israel Adesanya will join the party.

The two middleweights have recently gone back and forth on social media, with some of their exchanges have been cringe worthy, to say the least. Brunson upped the ante this week, however, calling for a matchup with “The Last Stylebender” at UFC 230.

“The last pretender [Style Bender] what’s up. You talk that loose lips stuff to [ESPN.com’s Ariel Helwani], talking about wanting to fight me,” Brunson wrote on Twitter Wednesday. “I accept Nov. 3, UFC 230. I sent you a message a day ago, what are you hibernating. TKO via slam coming. You’ll be humble after this one.”

According to ESPN, the promotion is targeting the matchup for that very event, but the bout has not yet been finalized.

Brunson had a two-fight winning streak halted in his last outing, when he was knocked out in the first round by Ronaldo Souza at UFC on Fox 27. Adesanya is unbeaten in 14 professional fights, including triumphs over Brad Tavares, Marvin Vettori and Rob Wilkinson in the Octagon.

UFC 230 takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov. 3 and already includes a trio of key middleweight matchups: Yoel Romero vs. Paulo Henrique Costa; Chris Weidman vs. Luke Rockhold and Souza vs. David Branch.
