The Quinton Jackson vs. Rashad Evans boxing card has added another matchup between ex-UFC competitors.
The promotion announced on Saturday that Diego Sanchez — the first ever winner of The Ultimate Fighter — will face John Makdessi at ICS Mania 1 on April 12 at The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M. The second meeting between former UFC light heavyweight champs Jackson and Evans is set to headline.
While there are bouts on the card with recognizable names from the UFC, the date of the event is certainly a questionable choice, as it’s the same date as UFC 314 — one the promotion’s most stacked lineups in quite some time.
Sanchez looks for his first combat sports victory in over five years — a disqualification win over Michel Pereira at UFC Rio Rancho in February 2020. In his most recent bout, Sanchez was stopped by Austin Trout at BKFC KnuckleMania 3 in February 2023.
Makdessi competes for the first time since losing his final UFC bout at UFC 293 in September 2023.
