Dustin Poirier seems ready to move on from his disheartening loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, and he already has a specific opponent in mind for his next Octagon appearance.
“The Diamond” took to Twitter on Tuesday to call for a rematch with onetime featherweight foe Conor McGregor. The “Notorious” Irishman defeated Poirier by technical knockout 1:46 into the first frame of their bout at UFC 178 on Sept. 27, 2014.
“I think me and Conor running it back makes a lot of sense at this point,” Poirier wrote.

That setback would turn out to be Poirier’s last UFC bout at 145 pounds. He moved up to lightweight in 2015 and has since compiled a 9-2 record with one no contest, racking up notable wins over the likes of Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway, Anthony Pettis and Eddie Alvarez.
After besting Poirier, McGregor went on to eventually capture featherweight gold with a 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo at UFC 194 in what would be his last 145-pound appearance. He moved up to win the 155-pound championship with a stoppage of Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 and then relinquished the belt due to inactivity. He came up short in his attempt to reclaim the throne at UFC 229, falling to current champ Khabib Nurmagomedov via fourth-round submission.
