Never say never when it comes to combat sports.
Perhaps it was little more than speculation on Dustin Poirier’s part, but the official announcement of the launch of Zuffa Boxing definitely piqued the former UFC star’s interest. “The Diamond” had a special sendoff in his home state at UFC 318 this past July, when he fell to Max Holloway in the evening’s main event. However, he’d be willing to consider lacing up the gloves for a matchup that fell through in the MMA realm.

“Zuffa Boxing [12 Rounds] me and Nathaniel, I’d do it,” Poirier wrote on X. “Only [one] more fight I’d take.”

“Nathaniel” is, of course, fellow former UFC star Nate Diaz. Poirier and Diaz were supposed to square off at UFC 230 in New York in November 2018 before “The Diamond” was forced to withdraw from the event due to injury.
Poirier Makes It Clear: ‘I’m Done’
Shortly thereafter, Poirier clarified in a separate social media post that he is still set on retirement — no matter what opportunities might arise in the future.
“We not even going anywhere but someone aske me,” Poirier wrote. “I’m retired. I’m done, but Nate is the one that got away.”
Diaz parted ways with the Las Vegas-based promotion following a victory over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 in September 2022. The Stockton, California, native has competed twice in the Sweet Science since then, dropping a decision to Jake Paul in August 2023 before taking a majority verdict against Jorge Masvidal in July 2024.
