Enough is Enough: UFC Hall of Famer ‘Done’ with Jose Aldo Retirement Ceremonies

Daniel Cormier will break his television if he must watch another Jose Aldo retirement ceremony.

Aldo was inducted into the Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall of Fame class of 2023 with an emotional speech. While it was considered to be the end of his career, Aldo competed thrice more, going 1-2. The former UFC featherweight champ finally laid down his gloves after a loss to Aiemann Zahabi at UFC 315 this past May. However, that was not the last time Aldo retired. “The King of Rio” was given a special opportunity to lay down his gloves again in front of his home crowd at UFC Fight Night 261 when the UFC returned to Rio de Janeiro last weekend.

While “DC” was emotional when Aldo was inducted into the Hall of Fame, he didn’t share the same emotion at UFC Rio last weekend. Despite his love for Aldo, the former UFC double champ is ready to throw something at his TV if he has to watch the Brazilian retire again.

“I’m over. I’m done with it,” Cormier told Chael Sonnen “At the Hall of Fame when he retired, I was emotional… He goes out and fights again. Then he walks out in Brazil… I can’t get emotional for someone multiple times like that over and over again. I’m done with it Chael. Jose, I just want you to be done. If you are done, you’re done Jose. If he walks out in Sao Paulo and does a retirement ceremony again where he goes and puts his gloves down, I’m throwing something into my TV.”

Aldo was the WEC featherweight champion and became the inaugural UFC featherweight champion after the promotion took over the WEC. Aldo defended his title seven times before his iconic 13-second knockout loss to Conor McGregor in 2015. Aldo never quite found the same momentum in his career and dropped down to bantamweight in 2019, where he went 4-5.
