While there is no official date or location on the books, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (50-0, 27 KOs) will square off with Mike Tyson (50-7, 2 NC; 44 KOs) in an exhibition boxing affair next year. With 11 years separating them—Mayweather 48 to Tyson’s 59—along with a roughly 70-pound weight gap, the result will not reach either fighter’s professional record. Per the release from the Fight Sports Network, Mayweather Promotions and Mike Tyson Promotions will be teaming up with boxing event distributor CSI Sports to put on this gala event.

No specifics are on the table yet for this pairing, other than that it will take place in a boxing ring. Both aging combatants are accustomed to odd matchups of late, with Tyson recently losing to Jake Paul while Mayweather has beaten up a bunch of foes in exhibitions matches overseas. The last pro bout for the former was the Paul fight this year, while Mayweather competed professionally for the final time against Conor McGregor in 2016.
Mike Tyson: “No Way This Happens”
In a statement as part of the Thursday release, the heavyweight all-time great expressed his surprise and excitement for this battle that will not end up on his permanent record.
“When CSI came to me about stepping in the ring with Floyd Mayweather, I thought, ‘No way this happens,’ but, Floyd said yes,” Tyson wrote. “This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable—and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets.”
Tyson continued, marveling at the situation presenting itself, “I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this. It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening!”
Mayweather too chimed in on the agreed bout, boasting about his legacy while hyping up the magnitude of the matchup.
“I’ve been doing this for 30 years and there hasn’t been a single fighter that can tarnish my legacy,” the 50-0 boxer stated. “You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and it’s going to be legendary. I’m the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want.”
