Former title contender Bethe Correia, veteran lightweight Evan Dunham released from UFC

Former bantamweight title contender Bethe Correia and veteran lightweight Evan Dunham have both been released from the UFC following recent losses.

UFC officials confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Wednesday.

For Correia, her time with the UFC comes to an end after spending nearly seven years with the promotion, where she earned a shot at the title in only her fourth octagon fight.

After earning wins over Julie Kedzie, Jessamyn Duke and Shayna Baszler, Correia was granted the opportunity against then champion Ronda Rousey in her native Brazil. Unfortunately, her night ended with a first-round knockout.

Since that time, Correia has struggled with consistency, bouncing back and forth with wins and losses over the past few years. While she’s earned wins over Jessica Eye and Sijara Eubanks, Correia came up short in fights against names such as Holly Holm, Raquel Pennington and Irene Aldana.

In her most recent appearance, Correia lost a unanimous decision to Pannie Kianzad, which was ultimately her final fight in the UFC before being released.

Meanwhile, Dunham gets his release from the UFC following a first-round submission loss to Herbert Burns back in June. That fight served as Dunham’s return to action after retiring from the sport in 2018 before eventually declaring his intention to compete again.

Overall, Dunham had dropped three straight fights prior to receiving his release from the UFC.
