O’Malley was recently discussing the UFC 321 card that went down in Abu Dhabi last month. Nurmagomedov beat a surging Mario Bautista via unanimous decision. “Sugar” heaped praise on Nurmagomedov’s well-rounded skillset and his team. The former bantamweight champ believes Nurmagomedov is skill-wise one of the best fighters in the division, if not the best. O’Malley said on YouTube:
“Umar is so fuc*ing good,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel. “He’s so skilled, such a good striker, so good at grappling, just got such a good team behind him… Skill for skill, I feel like he’s one of the best guys in the division, if not the best guy in the division.”
O’Malley (18-3) and Nurmagomedov (19-1) are among the few top contenders who haven’t faced each other. O’Malley turned down the idea of fighting Nurmagomedov when he was rallying for a title shot. O’Malley defeated Aljamain Sterling, defended it against Marlon Vera before losing to Merab Dvalishvili. O’Malley failed to regain his title against Dvalishvili this past June and hasn’t fought since. Dvalishvili (21-4) also defended his title against Nurmagomedov in between his two title fights against O’Malley. Nurmagomedov’s win over Bautista saw him rebound from his lone career loss against Dvalishvili.
