Adesanya took on Joe Pyfer in the main event at UFC Seattle on Saturday. While it was a closely-contested first round, there were glimpses of a prime Adesanya as he chipped away with leg kicks and a stiff jab. “The Last Stylebender” appeared to have found his groove in the second round as he started unleashing combos and hurting Pyfer. Ngannou thought the old Adesanya of championship days was back after the first round. However, Pyfer took Adesanya down and took his back, threatening a rear-naked choke. Adesanya shifted between giving up his back and giving Pyfer the mount. Pyfer finally flattened Adesanya out and unleashed a barrage of unanswered shots, forcing the referee to step in at 4:18 of Round 2.

Ngannou was heartbroken watching his friend’s brutal loss. The former UFC heavyweight champion got a reminder that the sport can be unforgiving despite putting in all the effort possible.
Tough to Rebound
“Watching Izzy’s fight last night was heartbroken,” Ngannou wrote on his Instagram Stories. “It reminds you how ungrateful this sport is. Sometimes it’s good to you, sometimes, no matter what you do, it lets you down. Izzy looked sharp, very sharp. And after the first round, I was like, ‘Oh, get this, this is good, Izzy is back.’ But sometimes we plan, but God has other plans. And I can only imagine how tough it is to come back out of it, to rebound.”
Adesanya’s (24-6) last win dates back to 2023, when he reclaimed the middleweight title by knocking out Alex Pereira, to avenge three previous losses (two kickboxing). However, Adesanya failed to defend his title against Sean Strickland and has since lost three more in a row. However, Adesanya confirmed that he is not going anywhere and vows to be back.
