Gabi Garcia returns to MMA action at ROAD FC show in May

Gabi Garcia’s MMA journey continues.

Fighting outside of Japan’s Rizin Fighting Federation promotion for the first time, the 32-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace will look to remain undefeated in her MMA career when she fights Veronika Futina at ROAD FC 047 on May 12 at the Cadillac Arena in Beijing, China, the South Korea-based promotion announced on Sunday.

Garcia won her first four MMA bouts competing for Rizin, two by KO and two by submission, but her last two bookings have been marred by controversy. A fight vs. Oksana Gagloeva ended in a no-contest after just 16 seconds due to Gagloeva suffering an eye poke, and a subsequent fight with retired Japanese wrestling star Shinobu Kandori was canceled when Garcia missed weight by over 25 pounds.

Futina is a four-time champion in Russian Hand-to-Hand combat who will be making her MMA debut. She is currently training with two of Garcia’s former opponents, Gagloeva and Anna Malyukova.

The bout is being billed as an openweight contest.
