Georgia Commission Overturns Result of UFC Atlanta Middleweight Bout

Cody Brundage has one less defeat on his record following a ruling by the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission.

Brundage initially dropped a technical unanimous decision to Mansur Abdul-Malik in their middleweight bout at UFC Atlanta on June 14. The bout was halted 36 seconds into Round 3, initially believed to be a technical knockout victory for Abdul-Malik. However, replay review showed that Brundage was compromised by an accidental clash of heads during the finishing sequence, and it was determined that the fight would be scored where it ended. Judges Sal D’Amato and Jon Marigliano had it 29-28, while Will Fisher saw it 30-27 — all in favor of Abdul-Malik.

Brundage would go on to appeal the ruling, and the GAEC has since confirmed that its bylaws state that no incomplete round should be scored. As a result, the bout has been overturned to a majority draw, which is how it would have been scored after two rounds.

The commission statement (initially obtained by MMAFighting.com) is as follows:

Following an appeal hearing from Cody Brundage, the GAEC has overturned the outcome from the June 14th, 2025, event from a Unanimous Decision loss (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) to a Majority Draw (19-19, 19-19, 18-20).

“GAEC Rule 85-3-.16(h) states that no incomplete round will be scored. The third round was scored the night of the fight and the scored were calculated. Upon review of the applications of our rules, the states Attorney General in our meeting today said the GAEC rule 85-3-.16 would supersede the ABC rule and therefore the round cannot be counted.

Brundage Gets Rare Appeal Victory

“I want to thank the Georgia commission for their professionalism and thorough review of Mr. Brundage’s appeal,” wrote Lance Spaude of Iridium Sports Management, which represents Brundage.

With the new result, Brundage will now be 5-5-1 with one no contest during his UFC tenure. Abdul-Malik, who kicked off his UFC career with finishes of Dusko Todorovic and Nick Klein, will see his previously unblemished record changed to 8-0-1.
