Gunnar Nelson out of UFC Liverpool due to knee injury

Gunnar Nelson has been forced from UFC Liverpool after suffering an injury to his meniscus.

MMA TakeOver first broke the news of Nelson’s exit from the card. Sources have confirmed the injury to MMA Fighting, with Nelson due to undergo surgery on his knee on Monday. Recovery from the injury and subsequent surgery is estimated to take eight to 10 weeks, at which time Nelson can return to training.

Initially booked to fight Neil Magny on May 27, the Icelandic submission specialist hoped to bounce back from a recent controversial loss to Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC Glasgow. The first-round loss to the Argentinian snapped a two-fight win streak for Nelson following victories over Albert Tumenov and Alan Jouban.

The UFC have yet to announce a replacement to fight Magny.
