Dana White kept his promise to Henry Cejudo.
Cejudo (16-6) stepped into the Octagon for the last time against surging prospect Payton Talbott at UFC 323 on Saturday in Las Vegas. Despite a valiant show of heart, Cejudo was outclassed by Talbott (11-1) en route to a unanimous decision loss. Cejudo subsequently hung up his gloves inside the Octagon, marking the end of a legendary career. The former UFC double champ also asked Dana White if his fight would win the ‘Fight of the Night,’ which would mean a $50,000 bonus each for both fighters. White promised to send Cejudo off with some extra money regardless of whether his bout earned “Fight of the Night” honors.
A Token of Appreciation
Cejudo’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, later revealed that White made good on his word. While the matchup didn’t win the FOTN, Cejudo was awarded both this show and win money despite the loss.
“UFC did just pay Henry Cejudo his show and win money,” Abdelaziz wrote on X. “Thank you.”
Cejudo abruptly retired at the peak of his career in 2020 after defending his bantamweight title against Dominick Cruz. The Olympic gold medallist returned to action after a three-year hiatus in 2023. Starting with a failed title bid against Aljamain Sterling, “Triple C” went 0-4 before hanging up his gloves.
