Topuria’s brother, Aleksandre Topuria, made his sophomore UFC appearance in a bantamweight matchup against Bekzat Almakhan at UFC Qatar on Saturday. Aleksandre outclassed the Kazakh prospect on the feet while neutralizing his wrestling game to earn a unanimous decision win. Ilia praised his brother for being calm and collected early in his UFC career. “El Matador” jokes that Aleksandre proved himself deserving of the Topuria surname.

“Very good. Very pleased,” Topuria told Alvaro Colmenero. “I’m very proud of my brother and the work that he’s done. We’ve seen him super calm, super mature, even in his debut. We saw him very mature, with great composure inside the Octagon. And today, he has shown once again that he deserves the surname he carries.”
Aleksandre (7-1)made his UFC debut earlier this year, earning a unanimous decision win over Colby Thicknesse. Meanwhile, Almakhan (12-3) has now lost two of his three UFC outings, with a decision loss against Umar Nurmagomedov in his debut last year.
