‘In other very surprising news, water is wet’: Fans react to GFL cancelling May fight cards

The GFL is not off to a great start, and that’s become more evident following the news the rookie upstart promotion cancelled their inaugural fight cards.

On Wednesday night, MMA Fighting confirmed with California State Athletic Commission executive Andy Foster that GFL’s weekend doubleheader slated for May 24 and 25 in Los Angeles is no longer happening. That has led to rampant speculation about the future of the promotion, especially considering the types of names on the roster, the rumored contract amounts for a lot of the talent, along with a lack of a broadcast deal.

The May 24 event was slated to feature bouts such as Urijah Faber vs. Renan Barao, and Benson Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis, while the May 25 fight card was slated to be headlined by Tony Ferguson vs. Dillon Danis.

With the announcement, MMA Fighting readers did not seem the least bit surprised. Check out some of the community’s reactions to the news, and give your thoughts on the poll question about the future of GFL.
