Islam Makhachev: Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov Deserves Spot in UFC Hall of Fame

Islam Makhachev wants his coach to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.

Makhachev (28-1) belongs to a long line of elite Dagestani fighters trained by Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. Widely known as “father’s plan,” Abdulmanap had correctly predicted that Makhachev would follow in the footsteps of Khabib (29-0) and take over the UFC lightweight division.

Dana White recently recalled Abdulmanap’s prophecy when Makhachev dethroned Jack Della Maddalena to win his second UFC title. Makhachev believes Abdulmanap deserves to be in the UFC Hall of Fame because of the legacy he left behind. With champions already in place in almost every major global MMA promotion, Makhachev promises that more will follow from the Abdulmanap MMA school.

Plenty More to Come

“If it’s possible, he should be on top of that list,” Makhachev told reporters in Dagestan. “Because, first of all, it’s his legacy and it continues. We transfer our experience to the next generation. And it’s the experience we gained from our coach. And there will be a lot of champions coming from our gym in the future.”

Abdulmanap passed away in 2020 due to COVID-19 at 57 years of age. Khabib retired the same year as the undefeated UFC lightweight champ, keeping his promise to his mother not to fight without his father by his side.
