Israel Adesanya: ‘Next Four Weeks is Going to Make and Break Some People’

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya issued a message regarding the coronavirus pandemic in a way that only he can.

Adesanya released a video statement on his social media platforms on Wednesday. While “The Last Stylebender” envisions both good and bad scenarios emerging from the measures taken to combat the coronavirus, he urged everyone to “stay strong” during the difficult time.

“I’ll keep this short and sweet,” Adesanya said. “This next four weeks is going to make and break some people. Some people are going to come out of this with drinking problems, drug problems, domestics, broken families. Or some people are going to come out of this with better relationships, severing all beef with family members and friends, cooking skills, better brains, healthier bodies, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

“I’m not your f—ing guru. I’m not nobody but the UFC champion. People carry some weight. Sometimes what I say makes the news. Stay strong because only the strong can survive this s—t.”

One of the brightest stars in the Las Vegas-based promotion, Adesanya has kicked off his professional tenure with 19 consecutive victories, including eight in the UFC. He last appeared at UFC 248, where he defended his title with a five-round verdict over Yoel Romero on March 7. Adesanya is expected to make his next title defense against Paulo Henrique Costa at a later date.
