Two of the best-of-the-best faced off on Saturday at UFC 259 and they needed all five rounds to settle the score.
In the end, UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz was successful in his first defense of that title, defeating UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya by unanimous decision (49-45, 49-46).
See the official scorecard and the round-by-round scoring below:
Judges Derek Cleary and Junichiro Kamijo both scored it 49-45 for Blachowicz, while judge Sal D’Amato scored it 49-46 for Blachowicz. Both Cleary and Kamijo gave Blachowicz a 10-8 fifth round.
The victory marked the first successful championship defense for Blachowicz, who won a vacant title in September with a TKO of Dominick Reyes. He improved his pro record to 28-8 with his ninth win in his past 10 outings.
Adesanya was hoping to become the first dual-division champion with an undefeated record in UFC history and also the first to earn that distinction with the middleweight and light heavyweight belts. Instead, he suffers his first loss in 21 pro MMA bouts.
