Jason Knight announces release from UFC

“Mississippi Mean” is looking for a new home.

Featherweight Jason Knight (also known colloquially as “The Kid” and “Hick Diaz”) announced Thursday that he has been released from the UFC, confirming a report from BJPenn.com.

The 26-year-old Knight competed nine times inside the Octagon, going 4-5 with notable wins over Dan Hooker, Chas Skelly, and Alex Caceres. Those victories were part of a four-fight streak through 2016 and 2017 that had Knight climbing the 145-pound ranks, but he then lost his next four. Most recently, Knight (20-6) was outpointed by Jordan Rinaldi at UFC 230 in November.

In the tweet addressing his free-agent status, Knight wrote that he’s “free to fight wherever” and mentioned Bellator, ONE Championship, Titan Fighting Championships, Legacy Fighting Alliance, and Rizin Fighting Federation as possible destinations.
