Jean Silva is 4-0 in the UFC with an extra $100,000 cashed in performance bonuses, and every victory means one step closer to his ultimate dream. The UFC featherweight belt? Sure, but not only that. In fact, fighting and pocketing thousands of dollars are his way to eventually walk down the aisle with his partner — and coach — Carolina de Castro.
Silva takes on Bryce Mitchell in the main card portion of UFC 314, which goes down on Saturday from Miami, and the Brazilian said there’s no anxiety on his part to get in the cage to fight.
“I’m anxious to be [in the gym] training every single day because this is where my dreams come true,” Silva told MMA Fighting. “My biggest dream is to get married in a church, so being here shows I’m close to that. And I’m living what I love. Training every day, waking up and being able to train with my bills being paid, that’s literally my dream.
“I want to live that [fight] as quickly as possible so I can come back here [to the gym] and do this over and over again. That’s only 15 minutes, if it lasts three rounds, and I have no anxiety. I’m happy, I’m motivated.”
When asked if he needs to win at UFC 314 is order to make money to one day get married on a church, Silva said he’s already won.
“Forget it,” Silva said. “There’s no plan A and plan B. Plan A: you can’t lose. Plan B: go back to plan A. And yes, getting paid takes me closer to my dream, which is getting married to my wife. At least $1,000,000, right?
“If you think about it, we can only do three things only once in life: being born, dying, and getting married in a church. You literally can only do those things once. You can only get born once, you only die once, and can only get married once in front of God, in a church. I’m anxious for my wedding. So that’s it, I want to make money.”
Silva moves to 5-0 in the UFC if he gets past Mitchell at the Kaseya Center in Miami and he takes a step up the featherweight ladder on the same night Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes battle for the vacant throne.
Silva said it’s hard to answer if he expects to claim UFC gold before getting his long-awaited wedding, but he wouldn’t be surprised if both happen on the same day.
“My path is been speed up in this company, so who knows?” Silva said. “Who knows if maybe there’s a surprise for my wife. On the day I get the belt I say, ‘get dressed because we have our wedding now.’ Then the UFC [post-fight] party will be my wedding party. It could happen.”
