Joanne Calderwood throws shade at Jessica Eye for UFC on ESPN 10 weight miss, ‘curtain pinch’

When Jessica Eye came in 0.25 pounds heavy ahead of the UFC on ESPN 10 main event, fellow flyweight Joanne Calderwood was ready.

Eye, a former women’s flyweight title challenger, missed weight for the second consecutive time on Friday as she prepares to face Cynthia Calvillo at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. “Evil” will still compete on Saturday despite looking worse for wear on the scale but forfeits 25-percent of her purse to Calvillo, per the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Moments after Eye missed weight, Calderwood responded via Twitter—even claiming there was possible tomfoolery involved with the hoop.

As the dust was beginning to settle, Eye gave an update on her health—along with an explanation for the weight miss—on social media.

As expected, MMA fans—as they are known to do in these types of situations—weren’t very kind towards Eye. One fan in particular gave Calvillo props for making weight in the short notice time slot despite moving up a weight class from the strawweight division, which lead to a response from the top-ranked 125-pounder.

Following that tweet, “Bad MoFo” reinserted herself into the conversation, thus leading to a back-and-forth between the two.

In the end, Calderwood believes she said her peace and, perhaps, cooler heads prevailed in the end.

Calderwood looks to be next in line to challenge Valentina Shevchenko for the women’s flyweight title. The bout was originally scheduled to take place June 6 before Shevchenko was forced to withdraw with a leg injury. With the COVID-19 pandemic creating havoc around the world, the bout may have been postponed regardless.

As of now, the UFC has yet to announce a date for the championship fight to be rebooked.
