Joey Pierotti Hoping to Get Recognized by Big Promotion In Lightweight Debut at CageSport 50

Joey Pierotti Hoping to Get Recognized by Big Promotion In Lightweight Debut at CageSport 50

For his second year as a pro, welterweight Joey Pierotti was able to duplicate the success he had in his first year, by not only going undefeated in four bouts, but with finishes in all four of his victories.

“I think it went pretty smooth,” Pierotti told MMAWeekly.com. “We were still undefeated with a 100% finish rate. I had a couple of TKOs and a couple of submissions, so it’s nice to kind of mix it up a little bit and not do the same thing over and over again.

“Overall I think it was successful second year as a pro. I’ve started to feel more comfortable out there. I have more and more confidence as I go. I’m heading into my next fight with a full head of steam.”

With four fights each year he’s been a pro, Pierotti has surprisingly not felt any fatigue. In fact, Pierotti would have liked to have been even busier, as he is currently experiencing his longest layoff between bouts.

“Honestly I felt fresh and ready to go,” Pierotti said. “I’ve been feeling a little antsy. My last fight was in October, so it’s been about six months (between fights).

“We had some contract issues and stuff like that. It’s kind of bummed me out a little bit. I’ve missed time in the past due to injuries, but I know there’s nothing you can do about that. But when it comes to contracts and money, it can be a bummer.”

At CageSport 50 in Tacoma, Wash., on Saturday, Pierotti (8-0) makes a move down a weight class to take on Tristan Connelly (9-6) in the evening’s 155-pound main event.

“Honestly, I’m excited to make the move down to 155-pounds,” Pierotti said. “I’m doing this vegan thing to see if it makes me feel better, which it has been. At the next level I wanted to fight at 155-pounds regardless, so I just wanted to get one under my belt and make sure I can and was capable of doing it, and able to compete at a high level at that weight class.

“I’m excited to see how everything goes, how the weight cut goes, and how my strength feels. Honestly I’m not too worried of getting beat. It’s more that I hope I can make a statement win here and get recognized by a bigger company and get picked up.”
